Why my Rhododendron is dying and leaves are droopy

Well, in spring May 2020, I noticed my Rhododendron was dying. Its leaves were cupping, curling and droopy, so I examined the plant and trying to find out the cause.

It didn’t look like it was effected by cold and wet weather because my other Rhododendrons were perfectly fine so I suspected it could be some kind of disease or infestation.

So, I took out the plant from its pot to examine the soil and found piles of Vine Weevil Beatles grubs. They had been eating its roots which was causing droopiness, cupping and curling leaves which lead the plant to die.

I have posted some pictures of my Rhododendron plant and infestation:

How did I rescue Rhododendron plant?

To rescue plants with Vine Weevil Beetles infestation is pretty straightforward but time consuming and bit of hard work involved.

First of all, I have cleared its infestation by picking out each grub and all the beetles in the soil or hiding under the leaves. This process took a long time. I had to make sure that it is completely cleaned, and have removed all the damaged roots and completely removed all the soil, cut all the affected leaves and weak stems and then re-planted into different pot with new soil. I then poured Nematodes that are dissolved in water into the pot to insure that no grubs are left and to protect it from further infestation.

Now, Our Rhododendron is perfectly fine and doing well.
